Worst 5 minutes of my life

It all started with the ominous and innocent text from a friend

"Did Craig get impacted by [the] earthquake?"

huh?

Luckily, my first instinct is to think that an earthquake can be mild, and since it's Vancouver, it's probably not that bad. After all, the last earthquake I remember being a part of was in Washington during the 8th grade, and it was more of a story than a devastation.

When I received that message, my instant response was, "naaah, he would have told me"

Then, I looked up "2014 Vancouver earthquake" and saw a picture of a hotel-like structure that was utterly demolished. The initial news report said that it was a "great" earthquake, according to the Richter scale. He couldn't have told me if he was affected if he was injured or dead. Of course, I then thought, "no way"... Yes, he was up there. No, I had no idea where he was, let alone the location of the earthquake in relation to the hotel... But...

Doubt caressed me too eagerly. I distinctly remembered emailing him in the morning, wishing him a good day. So, after seeing the picture of the demolished hotel, and remembering he hadn't responded to my email, I texted him. After all, he was supposed to be at work in a different country and I was in math class, so the non freak-out version of myself decided texting was the most practical option. I was a cool cat. Because if I freaked out already, I wouldn't be able to take it if something went really wrong.

He didn't text me back.

**Side note... it's always good practice to text your woman back. INSTANTLY. Otherwise, she thinks zombies/vampires/ghouls/earthquakes/tsunamis/instant-jump-from-a-ledge/random-gunshot is the cause of your death without any evidence. Seriously. Text back. If you aren't able to continue a dialogue then your only choice is to text back to the initial text and ignore the rest, until you can address them. Or, if she's becoming a bit cray cray, tell her you're in a meeting and hope she's a normal human being. I hope it goes without saying that you shouldn't tell her you're too busy to text right then. That would be a very consequential action.**

So, I called his cell phone when I didn't get a response from the text.

No response.

I called a friend to see if she'd call her husband to see if he's been on work's chat service. She didn't answer.

Then, the sweetest of texts comes through, and I have the largest flood of relief sweep through me.

"Do you need to talk? I can find another phone, it would cost too much for me to answer"

It was the best text, ever. Seriously, EVER! Though my body couldn't stop from shaking until about an hour afterwards, I was so relieved. I was about to hop in my car and buy the first plane ticket to Seattle (since I figured Vancouver would be too hard to fly into) so I could drive to Canada and search for him. Screw school, I was not going to sit idly by.

Luckily, I was able to finish out my school day without any troubles. The new reports coming out said that the earthquake was only 6.5-6.7 on the Richter scale; considerably lower than what I remember the middle school earthquake being.

But those 5 minutes of the thought that I could never speak to, hear or hold Craig, were the worst of my life so far.

Q&A A Day 1/12/14

What is your Favorite Accessory?

The only accessories I can wear are my Tiffany's necklace a watch and my rings. Ever since I got my first shot of my first round of Hepatitis B vaccinations, I've been allergic to nickel. So all of my jewelry needs to be "real". Which basically means that it can't be nickel. I'm not sure why it worked out that way, but, IF it helps, I'm also allergic to Vaccines.

Luckily, I'm still able to have vaccines. I just get a bit puffy around my eyes. And by "a bit", I really mean a lot puffy. It's actually pretty scary how puffy and weird looking I get. Even more weird looking than I already am.

So.. I can't wear nickel, I have to really need the vaccine, I also can't touch/be around plaster, I have to buy special makeup (still no eye shadow) and I can't touch leather... woo! All of it basically ruins my dreams. "How" you ask? Well:

Nickel: I will never be able to buy myself "real" jewelry for no reason and I extremely doubt that the Mr. will every buy me "real" jewelry because he already bought the engagement ring I really wanted. Also, I like pageants. People in pageants wear fake jewelry because it has to be seen from the audience (which means its "fancy" looking) and I could never buy "real"ones that big.

Vaccine: I will be working with sick people in one form or another. If it's in the hospital, there's a lot of required/suggested vaccines you need to get. I'm going to get the vaccines no matter what, so I will have to suffer through the embarrassment of the eyes for at least a week after I get them.

Makeup: Not being able to wear eye shadow is killer!!! I think eye shadow finishes a look and I just learned how to effectively use it. But, there's way too many different chemicals that are in the stuff (even the "organic" stuff), so I'm unable to wear it without looking like Quasimodo. It's almost the saddest part of the allergies... but it's not. It's only the third saddest out of the five.

Plaster: One of my dreams is to live in an old house. BUT! most old houses use plaster for their walls. So no old houses for me. One experience I had with plaster allergy happened when we were making masks for a masquerade ball... I forgot about my allergy until it was drying on my face. Even after I remembered it I still wore the mask for the ball (It was custom made and took a lot of time!). My eyes puffed up both times (after it was made and after I wore it).

Leather: The worst thing for me to be allergic to is leather. I LOVE horses. Horses wear... gear... like bits and saddles and reigns... These things are all made out of leather (well, besides the bit... but it's attached to the halter, which is made out of leather). If I wanted to ride again (Okay... when I want to ride again) I have to wear some cloth gloves and remember to not rub my eyes. This doesn't allow an organic experience with the horses, which kind of (more like "seriously") sucks.

So... Yeah, I can't wear too many accessories.

Q&A A Day 1/11/14

Today you lost_______.

Today I lost... my ability to eat. My tooth hurt so bad. Today was Tilly's birthday party and I just wanted to eat everything at her party. However... because I need a root canal, I was unable to do so successfully without having to dope up even more on the Vicodin the dentist prescribed me.

So all the time and effort Sarah put into the celebration Tilly's birthday, was wasted because I couldn't (1) help her (2) truly appreciate it (3) help her escape from the... out-laws. ;p.

Though I'm sure she completely understands, I still feel lacking in the good friend department. :(

Stupid teeth...

I often (pronounced offen, btw) dream that I pull out every tooth from my mouth. It's an amazing dream when it happens since, all of the sudden, the pain stops. I've had so many teeth problems the past x amount of years that the idea of having nothing there to cause the pain is... relieving.

Of course, I know I would hurt a lot if I pulled all my teeth out. Not to mention I'd look absolutely ridiculous. However, the "no pain" dream is a wonderful one to experience.

Q&A A Day 1/10/14

Write down something that inspired you today:

Getting donations for the crab feed with Jenny. We decided to go around to local businesses and get some donations for our auction being held at the crab feed for Miss Sac.

The good: Jenny did all the talking.

The bad: We didn't get a lot of donations since most of the managers/owners weren't in.

I'm not sure if anyone reading this has had to ask businesses to blindly trust in your organization's mission statement, but it is not easy. Of course, I believe in the Miss America Organization as a tool, not only for the winners of local, state, and national titles, but for the girls who keep coming back to try to win or better themselves.

I've learned so much from the pageant system that is Miss America that, even in my brief two years of competing, I absolutely owe it my limited time and service to help even more young women realize what their true potential in life is.

So, we did the uncomfortable and asked for donations to further our scholarship dollars for the young women running in our program.

Another inspiring thing was that I was successful in playing with Jenny's son while she asked for donations. He was so adorable and easy to distract, but he liked me so much that he wanted to schedule a play-date with me! I feel like I'm back on the bus in elementary school, asking Baleigh Steinberg to play with me this weekend. Except this time, instead of saying "oh, sure!" she actually wanted to hang out with me and made an effort.

Q&A A Day

Was today typical? Why or why not?

Not really... I went to Sarah's parent's and rolled lumpia with her mom, cousin, aunt, and sister (and her). We were rolling it for Tilly's first birthday party :D

And then, one of my teeth decided it was done being normal and thought I needed some pain in my life. So it throbbed and shot pain up my skull...

That's right... I need a root canal :D YAY!!!

Q&A A Day

What song is stuck in your head?

FORTUNATELY... none at the moment. And because I believe psychology may take over and PUT one in my head, I will stop thinking about it :D

Q&A A Day

January 7th, 2014

You are lucky; how so or not so?

Excuse me fake person, but what does lucky mean??? I have never come across this in my life. Well, there actually was ONE time in my 27 years that I had luck.

I think now is a good time to tell the entire Internet world about my one lucky experience. It was the year of "I can't remember but it was a while ago" when my lovely Aunt and I went to Comic-Con in San Diego. By the way, if you haven't been, you MUST go at least once in your life! Even if you're not the nerdy-geek type. We went because my lovely Aunt and I loved this new book that was being turned into a movie and they were going to have the cast there for a panel discussion and a meet/signing opportunity. It was called, Twilight. Very obscure thing that no one knows about, I know. Well, my lovely Aunt and I get into this line that will lead up to someone holding a bag full of raffle tickets that will either be blank or have a stamp on the back. My lovely Aunt went first, because she was hoping to be the one that got it before me. The back of her ticket was blank. I went, grabbed what I thought was one ticket and it was also blank on the back. However, I realized that I had grabbed two instead of just the one, because one was stuck to the other. And as you might guess, since this is a story about my one lucky experience, this other ticket had a stamp on it.

So yes, my one lucky experience has to do with meeting the cast of Twilight and having an autographed poster dedicated to me (well.. any ol' Amber I suppose) from the cast and author of Twilight. I remember Rachelle Lefevre, Victoria in the movie, said to me something like "Hey! We have the same hair! Us redheads need to stick together!"... Uh, heck yeah Rachelle, I'd love to be your BFF. Well, at that time I would have, however, when you get older you start to think things like, "ooo, would we be compatible? Are you cool or a little cray-cray? Because I don't need any drama in my world. Are you going to make me work harder to be your friend? Or can we just be chill? You come over to my house for pizza and beer and I'll go over to your house for movies and popcorn." However, it was an awesome and very lucky experience.

It wasn't the only time I've ever met celebrities either, it was just the first time and where I picked or was chosen to meet them.

Otherwise, you really don't want me at any sporting event for your team or to give you lotto numbers because I will not help your chances of getting what you want.

How about you?

Q&A A Day

January 6th, 2014

Today was tough because...

of nothing... Besides the fact that I didn't do anything, I suppose.

Seriously, that's all I have. I didn't do anything today and it was awesome. Tomorrow I may feel the repercussions, but today I will bask in the awesomeness that is ... ... doing NOTHING. :D

Q&A A Day

January 5th, 2014

What was the last restaurant you went to?

I'm actually pretty proud of myself on how long ago it was since we went out to eat something at a sit down restaurant. I did have Taco Bell just yesterday (the 4th) though... And before that was Subway on the 1st (on the drive home from Washington). However, those don't really count in my mind since one was necessary for substance and the other was probably $5.

For my sister's birthday my dad took her, his girlfriend Ann, and I out to Chinooks in Seattle. It was there I had my first fish taco, and a delicious fish taco at that. Unfortunately I didn't get to eat ALL of it because I stocked up on the biscuits. I have a VERY good reason for doing so though!!! My sister thought the bus boy was very attractive and being the fabulous sister that I am, I tried to get him over to our table as often as I could. Thus, I ate too many biscuits and ruined my dinner. BUT, I won "best sister of the year" award :D

What was the last restaurant you went to???

Q & A A Day

January 4th, 2014

The best part of today?

This is probably about to get real sappy...

I missed seeing this little girl and her mom while I was up in Washington.

Don't misinterpret my words though. I loved hanging out with family and getting to the point where I was almost annoying to them again. I just really missed her (and her mama-Sarah!) like I miss everyone up in Washington while I'm at home in Cali.

We went over to their house and hung out today. Freaking Natalie was already standing so much more steadily than before we left. The very first anniversary of her birth is this Wednesday and I swear she grows up so fast. I usually get to see her AT LEAST once a week. She is such a happy and loving little girl. Let's just say that she is the anti-birth control child and even though it sucks, I love her so much. Even Craig feels it, though he's more macho about it. He says things like "yeah, she's so good that I'm afraid ours are going to be hell".

After Tilly went to sleep Sarah and I giggled like weirdos together until 11. I know our oldness is showing, but it was some much needed stress relief. Besides, we went over at about 5pm... I feel like kids "these days" do things later in the evening. So really  we were together longer than those youngens these days are with their friends.

Howz about you??? What was the best part of today for you?

Q&A A Day

January 3rd, 2014

What are you reading right now?

Those that know me are aware of my obsession with books. Those that know me even better know that I enjoy reading almost everything except history and general fiction . And those that know me the best(est) understand that I LOVE slutty Romance or Young Adult books the most(est?). Especially if there are Vampires or Werewolves involved --YES I READ TWILIGHT... AND LOVED IT (then).

My main motivation to read is to escape reality. I hardly ever enjoy reading something that is probable, hence the love of Vampires and Werewolves and the disdain of general fiction and history. Besides escaping my life struggles, the second most important use of reading for me is to learn. So, even though it labels me as an supernerd I love reading my anatomy book... serious "NERD ALERT" going on right there. I strive for knowledge and the **insert angel's singing here** knowing.

The reason why I'm giving everyone the explanation of my reading habits is that I don't want you to be surprised by what I'm reading. Because unless you know me the "mostest", you will think I'm Cray-Cray and probably pretty shallow for what I'm reading.

Did I forget to mention that I don't like to read one thing at a time? Yeah, it's very difficult for me to do that. Believe it or not, I have reasons for this. Reason 1: I see something in my head that will fill that literary craving I have. Thus, only ONE of those books shown above is something I've never read before. Reason 2: I go by "my heart". In other words, one day I may really want to read about teenage angst and vampires (*cough* Vampire Academy *cough*) and the next I want to read about passion and SEX!!! --sorry, I thought I'd scream that so no one thinks I'm trying to fool myself or anyone else.

Let's put it another way. I'm a picky eater--super picky. I don't like caramelized or crunchy onions (unless they're on hot dogs or they're fried). I eat hot dogs, but not red meat. I am cool with tomato sauces, but not tomatoes. Salad is just leaves, but spinach is DELICIOUS! Do you see where I'm going with this? I am annoyingly picky with food. I wait to cook until I know what my tummy desires... One day I'm craving pasta, fruit and veggies. The next it's taco bell, sprite and Pepto Bismol. This idiotic struggle with food is the same idiotic struggle I have with books. Eventually I go back to the books that I change my mind about and finish them, even though most of the time it's unnecessary since I've already read them.

Alright, enough explaining my behavior!!

What are you reading?!?!

Q&A A Day

January 2nd, 2014

Can People Change?

I sure hope people can change, otherwise, I am still a selfish biotch at heart. Which, I like to think I'm not... anymore. There are several aspects of the human development that contribute to the ability to change. For example, the frontal lobe is one of the last things to be developed in the brain and it is responsible to think of the future and the consequences of actions. So when that part of the brain is developed and the skill is gained, people change.

When I began to realize that there were consequences to my actions, I started feeling the pain that I could inflict on other people. Then of course, there's that age old adage of "do unto others that you would want to be done unto you"... or something like that. I'm pretty sure I learned that at church. Anyway, when I started to feel the pain that I could cause others, I didn't want want to be that person in their lives. I mean, sure, there are some people that I don't mesh with, but I wouldn't want to be "THAT person" they complain about regardless. So I became a more pleasant people to all of the people around me.

The second part that I see change people's nature (though, maybe not their basic nature) is experience. When I was a teenager--right around the time my frontal lobe was developing-- I believed my parents didn't know any more than I did. Then I grew up... and I realized that their experiences when they were growing up were vastly different than mine and that, believe it or not, they had lived longer than me. Even after I learned those lesson I found out that the romanticized notions I created about their past was not how it really was. For example, my mom grew up on a farm. In my mind, I saw a large, spacious house with light and laughter and riding horses. It was one big smile-fest in my mind. My dad, he played with whatever toy he wanted, swam in the lake of leaches (though I learned later that he didn't grow up in that home.. or at least I don't think he did) and DJ'd for his high school like a pimp. When I was "old enough" to be familiar with their pasts as an "adult" I found my stamp I put on their lives was silly at best.

It's a good thing that the book I write in is too small to actually write this, but sometimes a little more explanation on things is desired. The end message is still the same, YES I believe people can change! Hopefully they take the opportunity to change for the better like I have and that they take the credit for their awesomeness.

Q&A A Day

January 1st, 2014

What is your mission?

I want to be more on top of things. Everything sort of dumped on me at the end of the year and I felt floundered and crazy. So my goal is to be more productive, proactive, and responsible in every aspect of my life. To do so, I will live by my planner and all the things I create to help me stay organized. I also will keep moving, take small breaks, but don't stay idle for too long. These qualities should help me stay on top of the hard year in front of me. And in doing this, I will be more prepared for nursing school. I hope...

I also want to write more. I would like to rewrite my first book for sure, at least twice, finish two-to-all of my other books I started and send the one of them into publishers. These things need to be revisited weekly and a list of the steps and areas I need to work on is a MUST!

I NEED to keep in better contact with family. It's so easy to get stuck in your own universe, and sometimes it's a wonderful thing to be able to do. However, I want people to know that they are cherished by me, that I listen and understand them, and that I want to be a part of their life in any way I can. One of my first craft projects is to create some sort of calendar system that tells me when birthdays are and to get everything ready for each person. And though it sounds so disingenuous I want to create a list of everyone's names and cycle through it to make sure I can be a part of people's lives. The reason I would do it this way is because, though I enjoy spontaneity and freedom, strict structure is paramount for me to be successful in my endeavors.

Remember the good times in the midst of the bad. I tend to allow things the ability to bother me at a deep level. They always seem to be those things I find lacking in myself. Most of the time it's that I try so hard and all I see are my failures. I want to be able to look back on all the positives while dealing with the dark thoughts about myself. For example, I study for hours/days, and only get a B. I'm not sure why, but that's normally where the spiraling begins.

Those are my missions (I like that word better than "goals"... It sounds less cheesy and moved like its GOING to happen), now let me know about yours!!

Q&A A Day

I bought this book to remind me of how much I changed and grew over the years. It's Q&A A Day - 5 Year Journal (the picture is below). I answer a random question every day of the year for 5 years. My goal is to get back into writing more and being more comfortable and creative with it. I also wanted to try and get back to the blogging scene so I will post the question and then my answers for every day. Hopefully, it's enjoyable and actually works!!! I'd LOVE for everyone to post their answers as well!

52 Weeks of Organization-Kitchen Countertops and Sink

Hey!! Long time no see :)

I figured I'd try to write again and what better way to start than posting my mom's and my project of 52 Weeks of Organization! It's basically trying to get your house organized in 52 weeks. That way you don't over stress yourself, or if you do, it's only that one week that is the pain in the butt. This is the first week so if'you'd like to start with me that'd be cool! If not, you can either start later (since this isn't a "New Years" thing) or you can just watch and hopefully be jealous :D. I can only post my stuff since my mom is in a different state but if she sends me pictures I can upload! I know she wouldn't even dream of writing me a blog to post or doing one herself (she's not a fan of reading/writing, does enough of that all day to do for leisure). This is really good for people who have a problem getting rid of things, or keep things they've bought replacements for, or even those that just have multiples of good things they could give to goodwill (aka... me and my mom). Craig will be so happy afterwards if everything has a home and is of working and good quality

This week: Kitchen Countertops and Sink

My goals:
  • shred all the stuff in our "shred box"
  • find or create a hand soap and dish soap dispenser (thinking mason jars)
  • find a home for excess counter stuff (ipod player, our knives, maybe even the coffee syrup)
  • mail organization. it's not functional anymore. It was when we weren't married and I didn't take over paying all the bills, so we opened separate mail. Now, one is more for storage and the other is overflowing... It might be that I create a bill paying schedule to coincide with Craig's payday schedule.
  • Junk Drawer: everyone has one, I'm going to put things in baggies and use a desk organizer I've had for a long time (bought it because it was cute and used it at work) and doesn't have a home. Hopefully I can give it one in there.
  • under sink: it needs a redo...
  • sink: baby oil it up to shine it
  • stove: figure out how to clean it
My mom's goals:
  • clean all the counters
  • wipe down the kitchen aide with an old toothbrush
  • de-clutter
  • go through the utensil container on the stove and take out what she doesn't need
Next week: kitchen cabinets and cupboards. this one will be easier and more of an asthetic appeal for the whole kitchen (for me) since we just moved and got rid of a ton of stuff that was expired or we no longer needed.

See the pattern, not too hard and easy to follow (until you get to what's really been aching you... for me, the garage, and 2nd bedroom)

Pictures to come in later posts (before and afters)

Woops!

Yeaaaahhh, it's been a while. So long in fact that I don't know about this new Blogger setup...

We celebrated our 1 year marriage anniversary and 7 year together anniversary earlier this month. We celebrated with an extended weekend (because of a holiday... man we picked a great weekend to get hitched!) of doing nothing. I think we walked to Coldstone for some ice cream at some point. Our idea for this year's celebration was: cheap. We made dinner at home, we stayed home except for walks, we did lazy things, normal things, and the reason for that is because we are saving to buy a condo.

In fact, we just signed the papers to agree to the terms. Escrow will start soon and we will have a new place with 2 months to make it live-able to our standards and move out of our apartment. Well, when I say: "live-able to our standards", I don't mean it's a piece of junk. Quite the opposite of that. We saw another condo in the same complex for $4,000 more and it was a piece of work. The major things were holes in the walls (the big kind) and it reeked of dog piss. It was terrible. There was no way we were going to bid on it.. unless the one we did bid on decided to turn us away. But they didn't. Yet. We still have to wait for their signature on our final papers before we can start the Escrow process.

I'll talk about the whole searching process on my micromanaged blog.... man it's been a while. haha.

Craig's favorite part about the place... 2 bathrooms (full) and even though it's a condo, our only neighbors are on our back wall, so we can be as loud as we want because they won't hear us. No one is underneath us, unless you count garages, which, no one lives in their garage... not in condos at least.

My favorite part is that the kitchen is completely open to the living room and dining room. That was always a hard thing to find, especially in a condo. I'm not sure what it is with California homes but they really like to close off their kitchens. So condos are the same.

Our lucky part is that it's walking distance to Craig's work. Craig can ride his bike now (it was just too long of a trip to work that he was sweating before he got there). Also, if his truck decides to kick the bucket then we can be a single car family for as long as we are there. (to save up for his beamer of course)

Anywhozle... That's our year and some change update on our life!

Week... ??? Crap

I know, I know, all my millions of adoring fans would love to know how Craig and I are doing! ha! Well... let's see if I can remember (highly doubt it). Or I can just look at my planner to see what I at least PLANNED to do :D

Hmmm...  We went to the dentists.... Craig's teeth are perfect (besides a little dyed, the jerk). Mine were not so perfect. BUT! I didn't have as bad as last time. They didn't grind down their stuff enough on one side, so of course I don't go back in. I've had to chew on the right side of my mouth since February 14th... YAY! haha.

OO OO!!! We finally went on our Honeymoon!! We went to Florida the 16th of February and didn't come back until the 22nd. OF COURSE we made our first stop The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando. The first sight of the place is surreal. It's so exciting. I wish I became a giddy school girl who just saw the hottest guy walk by with his shirt off. AND he winked at me. I seriously wish I could have bottled up that feeling and kept it for the next time we went there. I think what helped the first time is that we hadn't gone to Disney yet. I've been to Disney before, but the last couple of times I went down to Florida we only went to Universal (Islands of Adventure to be exact). It's always been my favorite, and since it has Harry Potter there, it still is. However, the second time we went there on this specific vacation, we had been to Disney the past couple of days and you just can't compare the feeling of happiness from employees that Disney has with any other theme park. And it's all of Disney's parks. Plus I felt like Disney was just able to do so much more. And that got me wishing Disney was the one who produced HP (as long as nothing would have changed in the movie) so that they could have both Diagon Alley and Hogsmead. Oh well, I can't wait to go back.

That was February. March contained a doctors appointment. We finally found "our physician" and scheduled all the necessary tests... for June! geez. I got on antibiotics because while we were down in Florida I picked up some virus the 2nd day and was sick for 2 weeks with no hope for a non-sick future. It didn't kill it. It ended up going away another week after I had to finish up my meds. Craig's birthday was that month! we got together with friends and just chilled.

I started playing soccer too!!! First time I've ever played soccer. Craig's been training me and they needed another girl... just to have an extra body. So I played! eek! We play on the worst team in the worst league. And yet, everyone on the other teams whine, bitch, and complain. geeez.

I also felt the most excruciating pain in my life in the month of March. First was the incessant migraine that just kept on giving. As in, it didn't know how to calm down it's silly little throbbing... it only understood: pain... and lots of it. Then I went to the Urgent Care in Folsom to see what I could get to help my migraine... they gave me Imitrex... in the arm... just under the skin and not in the muscle at all. That was absolutely painful. I don't know what to compare it to. Besides what you would think chopping of your arm without painkillers would feel like. Ironic... the painkillers felt like you were going without painkillers while someone's torturing you. yay! haha. It made me nauseous as it traveled from my arm to my head (yes I felt it all the way up) and the nausea pill they gave me to ease it left the nastiest taste in my mouth for a month. Everything tasted different, for the worse. ick. He gave me vicodin and a different (less fast acting) nausea pill for when I'm at home and I can't get rid of them. He also suggested I got Excedrin Migraine or drink caffeine.... not joking, doctor's orders to drink coke! muahahahaha.. Coke hasn't helped, Excedrin Migraine helps for a while but the migraine comes back before I can take another one. And since I can't take more than 2 in a 24 hour period and you take 2 at a time, it scares the crap out of me to take. So I try sleep, or showers, or Craig rubbing my head before I try that. But I try EVERYTHING else before I try that stinking vicodin and nausea medicine. The first time I was down for 2 days. There was no getting up for work the next day. Forget that I took the meds at 6 the previous night. I couldn't function until 6pm the next day. I'll only take it if I don't have anything to do the next day. Which usually only works out fridays and saturdays, which those are the nights I usually like doing the "fun" things ;).

It's really weird with this migraine thing though. I haven't had any for almost a year, then all the sudden I start getting them. It wasn't hot out yet, the season was still pretty rainy, which it had been for months. I hadn't changed my diet or my schedule. The switch just flipped randomly one day (double vision, tunnel vision, having to drive 30 miles home on a constant construction zone freeway... awful awful feeling. I had to throw up the whole way home, and once I knew I was in or apartment and didn't have to do anything else, I let my vision go and I was blind... yeah, it was bad) I went terrible. Then I started getting them every day. They're at least a headache (just the background constant hum of slight pain. And every once in a while I'll get some migraine intermixed with it (the pounding of nails in my brain, beneath my skull where I can't rub softly to get rid of).

That was March!

April started out with us going to San Jose to watch our Seattle Sounders take on the San Jose Earthquakes. that was... a little scary. We've never been at another team's stadium before. Plus, Seattle is known for it's awesome fans, so it was scary to be in an unfamiliar city, at an unfamiliar field. I even got boo'd! Craig said that it's because I'm a hottie. hehe. Because he didn't get boo'd. Which, I did get checked out before the dude boo'd me, but still. haha.  Then the next week we drove to L.A!!!! Well, Craig mostly drove, I tried, but I couldn't do much of it without Craig getting frustrated with my driving. But then, I drove fast and he drove slow(er than the speed limit!!!) so I was getting frustrated with him. I think driving my car all the way down there he finally realized how annoying that stupid stick shift is. Anyway! We went to L.A. for me to compete in the Mrs California Pageant. I blogged about it on my micro-managed blog. Let's just say it was a completely different experience than the Miss (not in a bad way), and I was the second youngest one. The youngest brought her friend with her everywhere, so I reaaaally didn't have anything in common with anyone. And I was too tired to put out the extra effort. The woman who won, I was super happy about. She was one of my favorite 2. She definitely deserves it! I'm still thinking on if I'm going to do it again next year. Maybe I'll wait until after school.

Which brings me to my next point... Craig and I are going full force with school now! well, me going to school. For nursing. He's been helping me study math when I just don't understand something, or don't understand why MY answer isn't correct. When I first took the test I didn't realize that the time limit meant that anything I didn't answer inside that time limit was wrong. Because when I took the English tests, that was how it was scored. So, I was placed in Math 30. I was super upset, so angry I just needed to punch something. That something was the sofa. Craig was able to talk me down so we could both go to sleep. The next day, I called the assessment testing  office and found out that the unanswered were incorrect. So I went back (today) and got placed into Math 100!!! yay! I only missed 5 questions out of 50. And I'm pretty sure that those 5 I was pretending to know what I was doing or blatantly guessed.

So that's where we are at now. I get to sign up for school May 16th, then once I do that, I get to turn in my 2 weeks notice. I'm secretly hoping they'll have me train a new person up in Washington so I can go visit friends and family. But I would miss Craig terribly. And he would just miss my company.... probably. hopefully by the time I get back he'll be missing me ;). He's better at prioritizing and realizing that there's no point in wondering what someone's doing if you cant actually do anything with them or about the situation. Men... way too logical ;p

Week 20: So much to do

Yes, I realize the previous entry was "not much to do". It's amazing how different weeks can be. I think the reason it felt so busy this last week was because it went by so quickly. And I was exhausted. I took a nap when I got home a couple of times, but when I was awake I couldn't sit down for very long.

I was supposed to get my hair cut (to donate to Locks of Love) on Wednesday but rescheduled when Craig came home saying he got tickets from a friend at work to go to the Intel Ball. So, 30 minutes and  $400++ later, he had a really nice suit. an hour later I emailed and scheduled a time to try on dresses from the director of Miss Sacramento County's pageant closet for the Wednesday I was supposed to get my hair chopped off.

I think the busiest part for me at least was the weekend. Friday I went home, took a shower so I could start over with makeup and hair. Now, I wish I would have still gotten my hair cut because my hair was too long to do anything with. I still have it scheduled to be cut, but it would have been nice. Anyway, the ball was awesome. They had a cocktail part in the front and the dining area was hidden behind wall to wall white flowy curtains. They did the big reveal when the time came but we didn't see it until we went between two curtains. hahaha. The decorations were great, the food was great. I finally found some mashed potatoes that rivaled my dad's. Which I thought was impossible. The best part?? 2 free drinks at the bar... not 1 not 1 per person... 2 per person (as long as you have the tickets of course). Oh wait... I guess the best part would be that besides Craig's suit, it was free. Though, next year it can be free :D

One thing I noticed that bugged me was that there were more people wearing short dresses than long. When I think of a Ball, I think long flowy dresses, not the short, sometimes skimpy or extra tight dresses you'd see at a girl ask boy high school dance. ugh. anyway, besides that! Craig and I danced, drank, laughed, and all together had a blast. Our friends we met up with there stayed at a hotel next door and I think, since we won't have the suit to buy anymore, we might have to do that. That way I don't have to worry about sobering up hours before. I did that. I knew I was sober hours before we left, but I wanted to make sure I was comfortable and Craig was comfortable with me driving.

Saturday was the busiest day of the week. Saturday morning I went to the Miss Sacramento County meeting. We were doing practice interviews since their interview is this coming Saturday (and the pageant for that matter). I was on the judging panel with a previous Miss California, a few previous Miss Sacramento County's and a current Miss San Francisco. Talk about pressure! The other room had a couple previous and mom's of the previous title holders, but they interviewed the teens, so it's probably better that way. It was fun to be back in on an interview. I really want to get it next year so they have at least 2 more interviews during the program.

Saturday night I went to the Miss San Joaquin(??) Pageant with the Miss Sac County director and her daughter. They crowned 4 girls that night. It took just as long as Miss Auburn used to but it was only 1 night. We left at 5 and I didn't get in to bed until Midnight. I almost had to stop a few times to throw up because I was so tired. When I'm beyond exhausted and still awake I get a migraine. when I get a migraine I get a stomach ache... when I add the being tired, it's like I'm dying. But this time I was able to hold it off until I tried falling asleep. Which by that time, when I closed my eyes and let the feelings finally get heard, I was sleep within a few minutes.

I did get to sleep in a bit on Sunday morning without feeling rushed. But from me being gone all Saturday and Craig cleaning the whole apartment, then him doing something that I would have been fine with if he'd asked... we got into a 5 minute fight. I'm glad it was short, but it was like all the emotions I tried keeping at bay all weekend and even before then and his frustration with me being gone and not being able to help him clean, it all came to an abrupt halt and needed to be let out. We talked through it and were okay quickly (hence 5 minutes) but that feeling of "we just fought" and "he's right, I'm awful" (not as a whole, but what he was upset about), stayed with me as I went to the Mrs. California Orientation/workshop.

So I was tired (from the lack of sleep all week and weekend and from crying because I was so frustrated with what we were fighting about) and couldn't think or process things clearly. So I was half there, extremely blunt and wasn't at my best "social" mode. I didn't get a chance to build up in to my social mode, which yes, I need to do that. I've become so anti-social that I have to get in to a small talk kind of mode. Anyway, I learned how to pop in my stance and I learned that I may have a food allergy since I start out skinny and end up a fatty by the end of the night. So the nutritionist that was there said to try a gluten free diet for a week and see if that helps because it sounds like a liquid weight. She said first to everyone to cut out sugars, but I can't eat sugars because it hurts my teeth. The only tolerance I have for it is in coffee. So something else must be my downfall. I don't know if I can do the gluten free diet, but maybe I'll start incorporating some of it in our... already diet?? But bread and pasta are my absolute favorite, so I doubt I'll be able to do it full on.

Anyway, I came home, Craig amended to going out with our friends (previously declined though I wanted to) and we ate some delicious pizza (yep, really going full on with the gluten free), went home and I went to sleep right away. And woke up tired. So that's where I start at on Week 21... Which you can read next week. yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! blah
